After breakfast at your hotel, depart from Ho Chi Minh City and drive south toward My Tho, the gateway to the lush Mekong Delta region. As you leave the urban bustle behind, the landscape gradually opens up into sprawling rice fields, meandering rivers, and coconut groves.
Upon arrival in My Tho, visit the Vinh Trang Pagoda, one of the most beautiful and significant Buddhist temples in southern Vietnam. Built in the 19th century, this architectural gem harmoniously blends Vietnamese, Khmer, Chinese, and even French colonial styles. As you explore the pagoda’s serene courtyards, intricate wood carvings, and giant Buddha statues, you’ll gain insight into the region’s spiritual traditions and its ancient Cham cultural influences.
Next, board a motorized boat and cruise along the mighty Mekong River, observing the daily life of local fishermen and farmers along the riverbanks. The boat will take you to Thoi Son Islet (also known as Unicorn Island), famous for its verdant orchards and peaceful rural charm.
Disembark for a relaxing stroll through narrow village paths surrounded by tropical fruit trees, stopping at a family-run orchard to sample seasonal fruits and listen to traditional Vietnamese folk music. Then, hop on a sampan (a small rowing boat) and glide through the tranquil canals shaded by dense nipa palms—a uniquely Mekong experience.
During the visit, you’ll also stop by a local home to meet the villagers, learn about coconut candy making or rice paper production, and enjoy a taste of delta hospitality with a cup of honey tea or fresh coconut water.
In the afternoon, return to the mainland and drive back to Ho Chi Minh City. Arrive in the early evening and check in at your hotel. The rest of the evening is at your leisure to relax or explore the city’s vibrant night scene.
