DAY 1: HO CHI MINH - CU CHI TUNNEL [L]
In the morning, visit the Independence Palace, once the former residence of the President of South Vietnam until the end of the war in April 1975. Continue to the iconic structures of colonial Ho Chi Minh City including the Notre Dame Cathedral (outside visit), built between 1877 and 1883, and the City Post Office – designed by the renowned architect Gustave Eiffel. Then, visit the War Remnants Museum, which presents moving exhibits from the Vietnam War.
After lunch at a local restaurant, depart for the Cu Chi Tunnels – an incredible underground network used during the war, located about 70 km northwest of Ho Chi Minh City. Watch a documentary film to better understand how the tunnels were constructed and used by Vietnamese soldiers. Walk through parts of the tunnel system and see trapdoors, underground kitchens, living areas, and storage facilities. You’ll also get to taste boiled cassava with tea – the typical meal of guerrilla fighters during wartime.
